Wireless speaker pioneer Sonos has announced that owners of its Arc, Beam, Playbar, Playbase, and Amp products now have the ability to add a pair of the company’s Sub subwoofers to their home theater setup. Previously, the company’s soundbars and amps only supported a single subwoofer connection. The feature arrives as part of a software update available only in the Sonos S2 control app, and further requires that at least one Sub be a Gen 3 model, which provides additional processing power.
According to Sonos, dual subwoofer support has been one of the most requested features coming from both its customer and custom installation partner base. Why add two subs to a system? As detailed in Thomas J. Norton’s feature Subwoofer Setup: How to Get Great Bass in 3 Steps, using dual subs creates more even low frequency response in a room than a single sub can deliver, letting you optimize the bass for more than one seating position.
In other Sonos news, the company is re-releasing its Sonos One SL Union LA Edition: a Sheila Bridges and Union LA collaboration, a model created in partnership with Color of Change as part of its #TellBlackStories initiative. The Sonos One SL Union LA Edition is available now for $249 at SheilaBridges.com and UnionLosAngeles.com.
Also new from Sonos is the Arc SL Shadow Edition, a lower-cost version of Arc minus built-in microphones that’s available exclusively at Costco. Arc SL Shadow Edition will be available on Costco.com in late December for $750.
